Why Financial Literacy?
Studies show; young adults who display higher financial literacy early on, are less likely to exhibit high-risk financial behavior. Balancing a checkbook and paying bills on time are basic activities, but essential to establishing and maintaining good credit, to buy a home, to purchase a car or start a business. The GAME of LIFE Financial Series is specifically designed to address these concerns, by educating youth on the basics of personal finance while motivating them to take positive action as it relates to receiving and spending money.
Our Approach:
APEX Leadership Academy’s Instruction follows the Financial Literacy and Education Commission’s Five Key Components which include Earn, Save & Invest, Spend, Borrow, and Protect. Covering the span of four phases, this Financial Literacy program provides an overview of several critical topics. While there may be similar programs on the market, our approach incorporates “real-world” experiences from former professional athletes! This differentiator captures student’s attention based on the well-deserved celebrity status of various athletes, involves stories of hard learned financial examples and inspires participants to pay closer attention to how money can be utilized!

With this knowledge, GAME of LIFE participants are more likely to make informed decisions when it comes to improving their financial health and overall well-being. Too many young men—especially African American teens—are navigating school without consistent access to mentorship, identity development, or leadership support. SHIFT! Leaders provide schools with a structured, culturally responsive way to improve engagement, behavior, and close achievement gaps, before they widen.
Often described as “an honor society without the GPA requirement and a fraternity without pledging,” SHIFT! Leaders recognize growth, character, and commitment—meeting young men where they are and helping them rise.
Built on the SHIFT! Personal Leadership Student Workbook, SHIFT! Leaders prepares young men to lead themselves, influence their peers, and show up differently in the classroom and beyond.
Activate My Greatness Male Mentoring Program
We deliver high quality programs in Middle Schools and High Schools to African-American and Latino young men.
This male mentoring program provides relevant curriculum, qualified professionals and unique opportunities for students to learn and practice new skills in and related to “Real-World” experiences. A goal of this program is to provoke different perspectives and solutions in association with leadership activities that “Activate”;
